Nicole Ventura is a licensed professional counselor and registered drama therapist who specializes in working with individuals who have experienced acute trauma, abuse, and/or neglect. She sees clients in-person at her office in New Haven and via telehealth.
She utilizes trauma-centered psychotherapy and embodied drama therapy to help desensitize clients to their past harm. She directly addresses "the thing" with the aim of alleviating anxiety, depression, and other symptoms that disrupt her clients' daily lives. By confronting some of their darkest moments in a safe-enough and supportive environment, her clients are able to reclaim their lives, voices, and bodies.
Nicole has supported clients of all ages, from toddlers to the elderly. She has also provided numerous consultations and trainings on a wide range of trauma and stress-related topics. Prior to entering private practice, Nicole served as a senior clinician and supervisor at the Post Traumatic Stress Center, and was a senior trainer of the Miss Kendra Program.
Her professional interests include working with individuals who have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, domestic violence, and early childhood abuse.
Nicole utilizes a direct, trauma-centered psychotherapy method that focuses on the immediate and detailed acknowledgement of experienced harm. Through the identification of schemas that were developed in states of intense activation, clients become more aware of the negative patterns of behavior that are impacting them in the present.
Developmental transformations (DvT) is an improvisational, embodied, playful form of drama therapy where the therapist engages in a mutual, transforming exploration of issues, situations and identities that are important to the client. It is rooted in the belief that being is unstable and seeks to help individuals become more comfortable with the uncomfortable.
Individualized professional consultations are available to support students, clients, employees, or systems struggling with behaviors and toxic stress that are negatively impacting the greater collective. Practical interventions will be provided and additional follow-ups can be made available.
Collaborative professional development trainings are available to businesses and educational institutions addressing topics such as crisis deescalation, classroom management, burnout, and vicarious trauma. Inquire about any unlisted topics that might meet the needs of you and your team.
Postgraduate professional supervision hours are available to individuals pursuing state licensure.
Supervision hours for graduate internships and postgraduate professional experience in the field of drama therapy are also available.
